Story Time!

Let’s hear from YOU. I want to hear some stories about peer pressure and how you dealt with them or helped someone else out in dealing with them!  Open up here and talk to your fellow YADA friends… maybe they can give you advice for next time?

This isn’t really about peer pressure but its about how I stood up to my brothers smoking around me. On the saturday before easter I went golfing with my brothers Paul and Kraig. When we got to hole five they started smoking and it bothered me but I didn’t say anything until we got to hole six and they started smoking again. I then found the courage to ask them if they could not smoke around me. Paul agreed but Kraig was still smoking his but he went behind a tree but that help matters any. I feel good since I can’t breathe very well around cigarette smoke and People are always telling me to stand up for myself around my brothers. That is my story that I can sort of relate to peer pressure

I’ve helped friends deal with peer pressure by inviting them over to hang out with me and I’ve talked with them too. I don’t have a lot of peer pressure right now going on in my life. I feel I’ve avoided this long and will continue that for the rest of my life.

    Thats great Kerri!

Keep up the strong will and hard work. I bet it is nice for your friends to know they have a safe spot when they are in need of help.

    Good to hear from you.

i think peer pressure is bad. and i have been peer pressured about how i should try to smoke….but i was smart and said no thanks. and i helped my friend in peer pressure a girl wanted my friend to try some weed and my friend was goin to but i stoped her from doin it i told her that she cant make a bad discussion and that she needs to remember what she wants to do when she gets older and that doing weed wouldnt help her get there.

I am proud to say that I have never been in a situation where I have been offered alcohol or other substances. I can’t say that I never will be, though. I do have to say that there have been times when people have been talking about drinking etc. and asked me why they never see me at parties. I say it is because I don’t drink. They say that you don’t have to drink to go to them. This is true, but I have no desire to be associated with it. Since I don’t what is the point in going anyway? There are plenty of fun things to do with friends that does not involve drinking. To you younger YADA-ers, don’t be afraid to say that you don’t drink. IT IS A GOOD THING NOT TO. If your peers give you a hard time, they’re the ones with the problem, not you. YADA is a great thing. There are people in this group who believe the same thing as you do and will be your support system. And for yourself, being involved keeps you accountable. I know I’m leaving next year, but I encourage you all to keep your high standard. Continue being a member of this group and keep a good attitude. Always know you’re a better, stronger person for saying no in peer pressure situations.

Well one time I was at the skate park in Auburn and there were a group of kids who looked like they just got out of college and they were skating for a bit then they pulled out a carton of cigarettes and asked me If I wanted some, of course, I refused then they started calling me names and yelling at me, so thats when I started to leave because I new It was wrong and I don’t need to be around that kind of area. I felt proud to know that I stood up for myself and left without saying anything.

  10. youthcoordinator says:

Wow Josh! You are one amazing kid. You did a great job dealing with this situation. I am very proud to have you as one of my students.

    Thanks,
    Kayleigh
